John Thewlis is an Australian singer song writer...

Johns musical influences include: Silverchair, Matchbox 20, Nirvana and Good Charlot.

His interest in music began at Willaura Primary School Choir from 1990 to 1996. He took voice Lessons with Alison Ho (Dunn) from 1997 to 2002, and voice Lessons with Ian Sandercoe in 2003. John learned to play guitar with Lyndon Kris from 1997 to 2002.

He formed Gary’s Ark in 1999 to 2002. John Thewliss was the runner up in the Ballarat and Clarendon College Battle of the Bands 2001 and winner in 2002. He was selected to sing in the Ballarat and Clarendon College Spring concert each year from 1997 to 2002 and in voice soiree’s in 1997, 1998 and 1999. He performed in 1997 Long and Winding Road; in 1998 Hope you Have the Time of your Life, in 1999 Hotel California, in 2000 a song from Romeo and Juliet and in 2001 Jessie- an original piece of music– performed by Gary's Ark. In 2002 he performed in Joseph and His Technicolour Dream-coat playing Joseph, Ballarat and Clarendon College Speech night in 2002– A collection of music theatre songs. Boat-mans Call Concerts – Ballarat and Clarendon College main act- in 2000, 2001 and 2002 as well as playing at the Ballarat and Clarendon College to play for the year 12 formal in 2001 and 2002. Gary's Ark performed at Under age Rages in Ballarat from 2001 to 2002 and at the Ballarat Show in 2001.

John Thewlis acting credits include: Ballarat and Clarendon College Drama from 1997 to 2002 and completed VCE Units 1 & 2 in 2001 and completing VCE Units 3 & 4 in 2002. He had the lead Role in Joseph and His Technicolour Dream-coat Ballarat and Clarendon College in 2002 and Chorus Role in Sweeny Todd, Ballarat Light Opera Company in 2003.

He started the band Grind in Ballarat in 2003, Grind records and performs original music written by John. John Thewlis plays with Aaron White, David Grimson and Rick McCann in a band Garland. Garland is a four piece rock/grunge band with members from both Melbourne and Ballarat. They are similar to Chris Cornell, Alice In Chains and Soundgarden. Garland recorded a live cd Lead The Follower, with the familiar track Fears.
